The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act and Rules, 2013 (“Law”) mandates every Employer to “provide a safe working environment at the workplace which shall include safety from the persons coming into contact at the workplace” (Section 19 (a)).
All organizations (whether public or private) having 10 or more employees (whether permanent, temporary, ad-hoc, consultants, interns or contract workers irrespective of gender) are mandated under Law to comply with certain requirements laid down under the POSH Act. This Law also lays down the redressal mechanism wherein the aggrieved person can file a sexual harassment complaint with the Internal Committee of the organization.

External Members
We are an NGO, and our external members are the ones who are working at the ground level. They are experienced in handling Sexual harassment cases for 10 years.
IC Member
Internal Members are the key aspect of POSH committee selected from the orgaisations. The POSH Act requires that workplaces with at least 10 employees have an Internal Committee (IC) to address sexual harassment complaints. The IC must have at least four members, including a Presiding Officer, two employees, and an external member:
- Presiding Officer: A senior-level female employee from the workplace
- Two members: Employees who are committed to women’s causes, have social work experience, or have legal knowledge
- One member: An external member from a non-governmental organization or association that supports women’s causes or a person familiar with the issue of sexual harassment
Annual Filing of Returns
The POSH Annual Report is a document that companies with more than 10 employees must submit to the District Officer and their employer each year to show their efforts to prevent sexual harassment. The report should include the following information:
- Number of sexual harassment complaints received
- Number of complaints resolved
- Number of complaints pending for more than 90 days
- Number of awareness programs or workshops conducted by the employer
- Actions taken by the employer or district officer to handle complaints
- Overall company compliance with the POSH Act
2. POSH Training & Awareness
For Employees
